MARG THE BOOKWORM
Marg Helgenberger is an avid reader. She says that surrounding herself with good reading material is important both for relaxation and for ’pure intellectual enjoyment.’
Marg has hosted her own book club since 1998, long before Oprah Winfrey made it chic to do so. Marg says that she started the book club because “I thought it would give me the opportunity to commit to a book and follow it to the end. I’d fallen into the bad habit of starting novels but not finishing them.”
One of Marg’s favorite books is Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ She says: “I had never read ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and don’t ask me how or why that happened. But that is one of the best books of our time. Such wonderful, wonderful writing.”
Some selections that Marg has read recently include:
‘Bowl of Cherries’ by Millard Kaufman
‘American Pastoral’ by Philip Roth
‘In Cold Blood’ by Truman Capote
‘Madame Bovary’ by Gustave Flaubert
‘The Poisonwood Bible’ by Barbara Kingsolver
‘The Believers’ by Zoe Heller
‘The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao’ by Junot Diaz
‘Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer’ by James L. Swanson
