ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, TRANSCRIPT OF INTERVIEW
May 4, 2005
Cojo: I understand that your scene was…I didn’t see it, but I heard ‘fireworks!’ Whose idea was it to bring you two together?
Marg: Well, this particular episode, the idea of it, came from me. I sort of wanted to do something that had to do with sexual obsession a la Looking for Mr. Goodbar.
Alan: Not with me necessarily. (Gets a look from Marg) Well, it was your idea to do the story. It might have been more fun with a stranger, I don’t know.
Marg: Alan, Alan…
Cojo: No, it makes perfect sense.
Alan: Good, I’m glad. For me, it’s very unnatural.
Cojo: Very unnatural or natural?
Alan: Yes. Well, people cast husbands and wives and think it will bring something extra to the table… there will be automatic intimacy there. I find it very difficult to be intimate with my wife in front of a whole room full of people.
Marg: Yeah, I think there’s… sometimes it’s easier to be intimate with a stranger. In an odd way.
Cojo: You met on the set of Ryan’s Hope.
Marg: You know, it was my first job, Ryan’s Hope. Right out of college and it shot in New York City, and the day players were always very, very skilled and talented stage actors, New York stage actors, Alan being one of them. And he was very cute and very sweet and very sexy. And he was really really good.
Alan: Marg was so sweet. We sat down in between scenes. We just kept on talking and talking. I just thought she was fantastic. A couple years later, I got divorced and moved out to California, and we were lucky enough, I was lucky enough, to run into her in a bank in West Hollywood.
Cojo: How romantic.
Alan: And she remembered me, to my surprise and amazement.
Cojo: Who made the first move?
Marg: I’m amazed that you were actually surprised that I didn’t remember you though.
Alan: You were a big star, honey. I was just a day player.
Marg: No! God…
Alan: But she did. She remembered me, and we exchanged phone numbers. But I was a little too intimidated to call her up. I thought she was, you know. Well, it’s true. A lot of guys feel that way.
Cojo: A beautiful actress with a powerful presence.
Alan: Yes.
Cojo: I can see that.
Alan: And she called me up.
Cojo: Oh! Bold!
Marg: Yeah I did.
Cojo: You’re finishing each other’s sentences and you’re adorable together.
Alan: Aw, well thanks.
Cojo: You really are.
Alan: I’m always real proud when I come on the set and watch her work.
Cojo: That’s nice.
Alan: It’s a little intimidating too because she’s such a fantastic actress.
Marg: No.
Alan: Well, it is.
Marg: You’re intimated by me?
Alan: A little bit maybe.
