TRANSCRIPT OF MARG’S SPEECH FROM THE 17TH ANNUAL EIF REVLON RUN/WALK WOMEN
Los Angeles, California
May 8, 2010
“I’ve been involved in breast cancer awareness and fundraising for close to thirty years. My mother, Kay, who unfortunately couldn’t join us today, is a thirty year breast cancer survivor.”
“And what I’ve been most touched by — inspired by — these last thirty years, are the deep bonds and profound friendships that develop between survivors. My mother attributes much of her healing process, not only to the love and support she received from her family and friends, but the encouragement and strength she received from other breast cancer survivors.”
“Today is about awareness, education and strength in numbers. We are all in this fight together. When my mother felt a lump in her breast, she knew something wasn’t right, even after two doctors told her it was nothing. When she sought a third opinion, she was told she needed a mastectomy.”
“It is so important for us to be aware of what’s going on in our bodies. Do regular self exams and mammograms. Be bold and ask your doctors when something doesn’t feel right. Be proactive in taking care of your bodies. Of course, eat well, exercise, run, walk, laugh often and make time to experience joy.”
“Life is a beautiful gift. Let’s cherish it. Have a fantastic day!”
