RED CARPET INTERVIEW FROM TV ACADEMY PRIMETIME TV CRIMEFIGHTERS EVENT
Aired November 1, 2010
Marg on her favorite TV Crimefighter: I can’t say there were female cops that I, like, gravitated toward. I mean I certainly thought Angie Dickinson was cool in Police Woman. I was a big fan of Mission Impossible when I was a kid…although that was not quite the same, but it was… I always used to think that our show more closely resembled that show than a straight ahead cop show, because of all our… the effects that we use. The CSI shots, etc, etc. I try to base my character on, somewhat on, a real person that was in the Las Vegas Crime Lab. I just spoke with her on the way over here actually, Yolanda McCleary. She’s retiring now. She’s retiring from this job at forty-seven. She’s forty-seven years old. She said “You know, I just..” It takes its toll. It’s a hard job and today was her first day of retirement. She says it’s…she’s excited, you know, the experience and what life’s got ahead for her. She’s still got a lot of…you know.. she’s only forty-seven.
On how she’s like her CSI character: I don’t think I’m as assertive as Catherine is. I wish I was actually more assertive. I’m much more of a, I don’t want to say a passive person, but I’m shy. I’m shy. I don’t think Catherine’s shy. I don’t think you can do this job and be shy. You kind of have to like get right in there and get your hands dirty. But this season, I’ve had a little more…I’ve been able to show a few more colors because I have a boyfriend on the show now, and in some ways, I’m showing more of who I am, you know, because I get to show a lot more vulnerability now with the boyfriend. So, you know, it’s kind of always a marriage between…you have to use a lot of your own qualities for a long running show. And then just hopefully they’ll throw you a good episode or two every now and then. Or you just gotta really do something else…
