ACCESS HOLLYWOOD – MARG DISCUSSES “INTELLIGENCE” (TRANSCRIPT)
January 2, 2014
Marg, you’re back on CBS, how exciting is… That’s got to be great staying in the family.
Marg: It’s really great, actually. Everyone has been so welcoming to me and they’re so eager to have me back, part of the CBS family. It’s been…I feel very lucky.
Tell us about Lillian. She is kind of a kick ass boss.
Marg: Well, thanks. Yeah, I mean she’s very smart, very strong, very competent, very enigmatic as well. But I do think that the buck stops with me. I think I am one of those kinds of people and I think everybody admires people like that. Because they don’t, they certainly don’t expect anybody else to accept responsibility for anything, I’ll take it. Even if I’m innocent, I’ll accept it.
Tell us about the Clockwork program. Is it called the Clockwork program? Did I get it right? Or is it just Clockwork?
Marg: Either, Clockwork, Clockwork program. The Clockwork program was, I was one of the people that was on the ground zero of it. And it’s essentially, I say it in the pilot episode, it’s our generation’s Manhattan Project. So it’s the most powerful weapon we have in our arsenal. And it’s essentially a microchip that’s been implanted into Josh Holloway’s character’s, Gabriel, brain. And which allows him to interface with the information grid. So, at any point, wherever he happens to be, he can access all kinds of information that will be beneficial to him.
What does Lillian think of Gabriel? Because there’s a little bit of a cowboy as well I think, when you meet him.
Marg: I think Lillian has the utmost respect for Gabriel. I think certainly his skills and his heroic deeds on the battlefield have made me that much more respectful of him too. But yeah, I mean, he is…he does have a little bit of a renegade in him. But I don’t think that’s anything that’s too unexpected so I’ll get upset or I’ll get a little flustered with him from time to time. But It’s nothing that I would ever think of grounding him or, what am I trying to say? I don’t think I ever go back on my decision of choosing him.
And you find Riley, who’s played by Meghan…who’s this young. very talented…she’s worked for the President protecting him and you bring her in. What does your character see in her?
Marg: I think I see a young version of myself (Marg Laughs.) in her somewhat. But also, I just think she’s somebody who’s obviously very skilled at what she does in her position in the Secret Service, that I can completely rely on and count on and a bright, energetic, trustworthy person.
So what kinds of things are you getting in the first season? There’s a lot of action on the show, some great technology stuff, really fun imagination gone wild stuff on camera. So tell us a little bit about it.
Marg: Well, yes. With the cyber renders, yeah it’s…it’s got a…this show has a little bit for everybody, really. I mean, it’s the people, the thinking person’s show. It’s very smartly written. You have to pay attention as you’re watching it. But it has a great deal of action, which appeals to a lot of other people in addition to, I mean, I think everybody likes action, especially if it’s housed in a really smartly written thriller, which this show is. And it has the special effects, the visual effects that are somewhat new for our audience. And they can sometimes get frustrating as an actor to always be working with green screen. I’m sure Josh is the one, he can verify that. But yeah, I think it’s just…it’s got a little bit of something for everybody. And Josh Holloway with his shirt off from time to time.
Now he told us it was his wife’s decision actually to take his shirt off for the poster. So we have her to thank for that.
Marg: Really?
Yeah.
Marg: Interesting.
Why don’t you tell us about…Josh told us he has probably sent two e-mails in his life. How are you with technology?
Marg: I’ve sent a few more than two. (Marg Laughs) I wouldn’t consider myself a technological wizard by any stretch of the imagination. I do the basic stuff really. Actually I do have a twitter account. I don’t really…I’m not a big tweeter. I don’t really see myself actually becoming one. But you know, who knows? Maybe I could change my tune.
