CBS LOS ANGELES INTERVIEW WITH MARG & JOSH HOLLOWAY (TRANSCRIPT)
January 7, 2014
Sharon Tay: CBS has a new action thriller, Intelligence, which premieres tonight right here on CBS2 and joining us now are two of the stars of the show, Josh Holloway and Marg Helgenberger. Welcome and good morning to both of you.
Josh: Thank you.
Marg: Thank you and good morning to you too.
Sharon Tay: How exciting is it that it’s launching tonight?
Marg: Yeah, exciting.
Josh: Pretty exciting. Finally game day. It always feels like game day.
Rick Garcia: It’s interesting because Marg, of course you were very successful on the show CSI, Josh in Lost. Do you think to yourself after those shows were over, ‘Boy how do I strike gold again on TV?’.
Marg: Well, I guess that thought goes through your mind, you know. But I, you know, you just have to hope for the best. I mean, I think we have a good shot with this show. It’s certainly very current. It’s very entertaining. It’s got a wonderful cast. It’s got some great visual effects.
Josh: Beautiful girls.
Sharon Tay: Beautiful ladies.
Josh: Beautiful ladies, it’s fantastic.
Marg: I think it will keep the audience entertained as well as — because you know it’s smartly written and an action packed thriller.
Josh: Absolutely. And it’s very current subject matter because everyone has a super computer in their pocket right now. And the way we deal with each other is changing. Our own humanity and technology are vying for position in today’s current world. So it’s current questions that we’re posing.
Sharon Tay: Well, in light of that, because this is such a technology oriented show, personally are you guys techies at all?
Marg and Josh look at each other: No. (laughs)
Sharon Tay: No? Oh, come on! MAC or PC?
Marg: MAC.
Josh: You choose it. It’s really bad. My three brothers are all into computers and they’re like ‘Really, the only way you would use a computer is if it was shoved in your head.”
Rick Garcia: And it is in the show.
Josh: And it is. So thank God.
Sharon Tay: Social networking, are you guys into that at all?
Marg: I actually do have a twitter account. I do tweet, not a crazy amount but… I am not on Facebook Never have been.
Josh: I’ve sent two e-mails. One was a test.
Sharon Tay: Good to know. You’re moving up, Josh.
Josh: The other was a pretty good message.
Rick Garcia: Josh, you have a great accent, but you were born in California. You’re a California boy in terms of birth, but not really.
Josh: Not really and yes, I was born in Santa Clara in Silicon Valley, before it became Silicon Valley, I think. But we moved when I was one to the rural backwoods of Georgia. So that’s more who I am. But kind of came full circle coming back to my Cali now. But yeah, my roots are definitely Georgia.
Sharon Tay: Marg, what about you?
Marg: I’m from…we have kind of similar situations.
Josh: Nebraska.
Marg: I’m from a very small town in rural Nebraska. But I’ve been in California since ’86. So I feel like, my son was raised here, so I love California.
Rick Garcia: Marg, when you deal with all the gadgets on the show…You’re the head of cyber security, your character is the head of cyber security. You have to keep an eye on Josh’s character through the show.
Marg: Right.
Rick Garcia: When you kind of delve into the super-secret stuff that goes on with spying and people watching citizens, did you kind of get a glimpse into what’s happening in society right now with some of the politics?
Marg: Well, I actually took a trip to Washington before we started the shooting in August. And I got to meet with some of the, I unfortunately couldn’t go to the NSA headquarters, because the week I went it was the week after Snowden leaked all the classified, you know, information. And so it was kind of on lockdown. But it was fascinating. It was fascinating to learn about NSA, FISA Court and have them reveal to mas as much as they could. Cause it’s a subject obviously being talked about quite a bit.
Sharon Tay: Yeah? Find any files on yourself?
(Everyone laughs)
Marg: We all have ‘em, right?
Rick Garcia: They’re all on Josh, aren’t they?
Josh: I found new files about her. She was a weather girl back in the day, I tell you what.
Sharon Tay: Were you?
Rick Garcia: We didn’t see that in your bio.
Marg: I did it for three months one summer when I was nineteen in rural Nebraska.
Sharon Tay: Awww. Very cool.
Josh: That’s how they make Nebraska hot in the winter.
Rick Garcia: Well, we want to thank you guys for joining us on the set here, but we want to remind everyone a special preview of the show Intelligence airs tonight at 9:00 P.M. right here on CBS2.
