CSI STAR’S EMMY THRILL

CSI star Marg Helgenberger blushes at the memory of chatting with us last February at the TV Guide Awards, just after she’d collected her show’s trophy for New Series of the Year. Why? “I had pink hair!” she laughs to TV Guide Online. “I don’t now. You know what? That shade was known as ‘PMS Pink.’ I was totally PMS-ing that day – I was crazy! What did I think, I was gonna get away with pink hair on CSI?
“Now I’m sans pink, back to my regular shade,” Helgenberger quips – though she couldn’t undo her follicular faux pas without taking a bit of razzing first. “It’s funny because I wore a punk outfit with a Burberry coat thrown over it,” she recalls of her ensemble that evening. “Then I got picked for one of those magazines’ ‘What Were They Thinking?’ shots. One expert said, ‘Burberry called and he’s p—-d!'”
Helgenberger will face the fashionistas’ scrutiny again at the Emmys on Sept. 16, when she’ll be among the contenders for best actress in a drama series. (Having won a supporting actress trophy back in 1990 for playing a junkie prostitute on China Beach, she chuckles: “I am attracted to those girls with edges.”) So will she be munching on her manicure until the big night? “Nah,” she scoffs. “First of all, there’s nothing you can really do about it. Second, I’ll just be pretty damn busy working my little tuchus off and being with my family. So I probably won’t have any leftover energy to worry about what’s going to happen.”
Well, may we at least suggest that Helgenberger choose a more auspicious, er, time of the month in which to plan her hair and wardrobe? Laughing, she replies: “I am going to take your advice and mark my calendar!”
