‘CSI’ star Marg Helgenberger celebrated her 50th birthday with a very special gift to herself – her own home!
The Emmy-winning actress – who plays forensic investigator Catherine Willows on CBS’ hit drama – has moved out of the house she shared with her longtime husband, actor Alan Rosenberg, to begin a new life, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.
‘Marg hasn’t been happy for a long time, and as 50 approached she finally told Alan she wanted to start the second half of her life alone,’ a close family friend told The ENQUIRER.
She moved out of the beautiful cottage they shared for years in Santa Monica and into a much larger mansion near the Brentwood Country Club.
‘Marg owns both homes, but she’s allowing Alan to stay in the old place while they decide how to approach the next stage of their marriage.”
The strawberry blonde actress – who turned 50 on Nov. 16 – and Alan, 56, have been married since 1989. They have a son who turned 18 on Oct. 21.
They met in 1984 while appearing on the daytime soap ‘Ryan’s Hope.’ Marg went on to earn an Emmy for the Vietnam War-themed drama ‘China Beach.’ Alan starred in several TV series, including ‘L.A. Law’ and ‘Cybill,’ and is now president of the Screen Actors Guild.
But while their careers skyrocketed, they grew apart, said the friend.
‘Marg finally woke up on day and realized they had nothing in common,’ the friend added.
‘But both she and Alan love their son, and want to minimize any trauma the split would have on him. They’re excellent parents, but they just came to the decision that their lives together were no longer working.’
Meanwhile, Marg is so focused on making a smooth transition for their son’s sake that the couple hasn’t even involved lawyers yet, the source said.
‘Leaving Alan was the toughest decision Marg has ever had to make,’ said the friend. ‘But now that it’s made, she hopes they remain friends.’
