Omaha, Neb – Emmy-winning actress Marg Helgenberger broke into tears as she honored people who have survived cancer, including her mother, at a celebration in her native Nebraska.

Helgenberger, 32, a native of North Bend, won a best supporting actress Emmy last year for her role as the tough prostitute K.C. in the ABC television series ‘China Beach.’
Kay Helgenberger, 55, is a nurse at Omaha’s Clarkson Hospital. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980, she recovered and eventually returned to college and earned a degree.
