Good news for those who are loving Marg’s latest television series, All Rise.  CBS has renewed the courthouse drama for a second season.  Because of delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, we don’t yet know when the second season will air, or even when it will start filming, but we do know that when it does air, CBS is keeping All Rise in its Monday, 9:00 P.M. Eastern time slot.  As soon as we know more, you can expect another update.

FILM & TV NEWS ROUNDUP: ALL RISE & A DOG’S JOURNEY

/in /by

This was a big news week for Marg so I wanted share a quick run down of the highlights for everyone.  Looks like we’ll be seeing Marg on both the big and small screen soon. 🙂

  • First, Marg’s latest film project, A Dog’s Journey, hits theaters on May 17th.  It is the sequel to the popular movie from a couple of years ago, A Dog’s Purpose and promises to be a big summer hit.  Marg plays Hannah, who is the wife of Ethan (played by her In Good Company costar, Dennis Quaid).  The film opened this past week in the UK and from what I’m hearing, it’s wonderful but bring your tissues because it’s a tear jerker.  Be sure to stop by the gallery for some film related updates that were made this week as well. Visit www.adogsjourneymovie.com for more information about the film and to purchase your tickets.

  • Second, Marg’s pilot has been ordered to series by CBS.  The name of the legal drama has been changed from Courthouse to All Rise, and Marg will be playing Judge Judith who broke the glass ceiling by becoming one of the rare female judges in California. Originally a progressive voice from the bench, over time she has become an entrenched member of the judicial establishment. As Supervising Judge, Judith is a powerful and influential figure who oversees Lola’s transition to judge — and through that relationship, she will rediscover her passion for justice. (Source:  deadline.com)  We should find out more about when All Rise will air at the CBS Upfronts later this month.

  • Finally, here’s a DVD alert.  Marg will appear on Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family next week on Monday, May 13th at 10:00 a.m.  For those who do not get the Hallmark Channel, it looks like they post the full episodes on their website after they air so you could be able to watch online after it airs.  (Website:  Hallmark Home & Family full episodes)

From Deadline:

A Deadline Exclusive: Former CSI, Intelligence and Under the Dome star Marg Helgenberger is returning to CBS with a co-starring role in the network’s legal drama pilot Courthouse, from Warner Bros. TV.

Written by Greg Spottiswood and directed by Mike Robin, Courthouse is a show that pulls back the curtain on the court system. It follows the dedicated, chaotic, hopeful and sometimes absurd lives of the judges, assistant district attorneys and public defenders as they work with bailiffs, clerks, cops and jurors to bring justice to the people of Los Angeles.

Helgenberger will play Judge Judith who broke the glass ceiling by becoming one of the rare female judges in California. Originally a progressive voice from the bench, over time she has become an entrenched member of the judicial establishment. As Supervising Judge, Judith is a powerful and influential figure who oversees Lola’s transition to judge — and through that relationship, she will rediscover her passion for justice.

THEATER NEWS: MARG JOINS THE CAST OF WHAT WE’RE UP AGAINST

/in /by

Marg arrived in New York this week to begin work on What We’re Up Against, a play written by Theresa Rebeck, which will have its Off Broadway premiere  at the WP Theater at the end of this month.  Joining Marg on this project are Skylar Astin, Jim Parrack, Krysta Rodriguez, and Damian Young.  The cast met the press yesterday for a photocall to begin promoting the play.

For those unfamiliar with the play, here’s the synopsis from the WP Theater website:

“Why is it still like this?” Janice sighs to Eliza. It’s 1992, and Eliza is the brainy new recruit at a small-shop architecture firm. But she’s struggling to get a foothold on even the lowest rung of the company ladder, and starts making moves to blow the lid off their pandora’s box of office politics and social maneuvering, in this sharply hilarious black comedy. Rebeck brings her trademark blistering wit to the workplace in this darkly funny and all-too-relevant comedy of gender politics.

The play has also already received some high praise from various media outlets:

“A juicy black comedy!” – Variety

“A swift and merrily vicious kick in the pants!” – Washington Post

“Theresa Rebeck totally and completely nails it in her latest play! A biting, brilliant comedy!” – Houston Chronicle

What We’re Up Against will have a limited four-week run, from October 28 – November 26.  For more information and to purchase tickets, please visit wp.theater.org.
